Native Frogs

Do you know what Maud island frogs are like?


Maud Island frogs are very special and they don’t have webbed feet. They have different coloured body and they have eyes. They do have black eyes and they don’t have long tongue and can lay their eggs in hollow under rocks or logs.



Frogs in Maud Island are protected by law. They must not be handled or disturbed
but then the male frogs looks after the froglets. It lived only on Maud Island in the Marlborough Sounds.

The tiny frog in Maud Island is only 47 millimeters long. Maud Island frog is famous for the loud chirping sound but do you know Maud Island chirp but they do breath threw there skin.
